Air treatment systems for non-residential buildings

Many office buildings and hotels are located in built-up areas or alongside motorways. Both in built-up areas and on the motorway, harmful gases and particulate matter are released that need to be purified. Harmful gases and particulate matter penetrate offices and hotels through air treatment systems. In particular, invisible pollution in the air affects the indoor environment greatly. To guarantee indoor air quality, both the supply and recirculated air need to be purified of particulate matter.

Particulate matter contamination is given in micrograms per cubic metre. The limit for outside air quality is 50 micrograms per cubic metre per day, according to the European fine particles standard (Air Quality Directive). The benchmark used for the maximum permitted indoor air quality is approximately half that given in this standard. In addition to capturing particulate matter, it is also necessary to optimise air quality by reducing the concentration of VOC (volatile organic compounds) as much as possible, using carbon filters. The gases drawn in from outside, such as NOx and SO2, but also gases that are released in buildings, such as formaldehyde, are harmful to health.
