Carbon filters

Which factors determine the differentiators of activated carbon types?

Activated carbon is a collective term that can refer to dozens of similar - but not identical - adsorbents. Activated carbon can be made from many substances with a high carbon content, such as coal based, coconut based and wood based, of which activated carbon based on coal is the most commonly used form. Depending on the raw material and activation method, activated carbon has  varying properties (pore structure, adsorption properties and physical properties).

Depending on these properties, the final chosen physical form (pellets, granular or powder) and whether or not the type of impregnation, a certain activated carbon type will adsorb one molecule better than the other. In this case, "better" means a higher adsorption capacity (loading) and faster adsorption (efficiency).
